Tafseer Quran Course Online
Reading the Quran and even translating its words is only the first step. Tafseer Quran study takes you further — it’s the detailed explanation of why a verse was revealed, where and when, and what rulings (Ahkam) it establishes for how we live. Our live, one-on-one Tafseer Quran classes are built for students who want that complete picture, not just the meaning of the words on the page.
Tafseer vs. Translation: What’s the Difference?
Quran Translation teaches you what the words mean. Tafseer Quran study goes several steps beyond that:
- Shan-e-Nuzool (Occasion of Revelation): the historical background and circumstances behind why a specific verse or surah was revealed
- Ahkam (Rulings): the commands and legal guidance Allah Ta’ala has given within a verse, and how scholars have understood and applied them
- Rabt (Connection): how a surah or verse connects to the ones before and after it, so the Quran is understood as a coherent whole rather than isolated lines
- Ilm ul Balaghat (Eloquence): the deeper rhetorical and linguistic layers of the Arabic text that a plain translation cannot capture
Allah Ta’ala describes the Quran itself as a book revealed “that they may reflect upon its verses” (Surah Sad, 38:29) — and that reflection, or tadabbur, is exactly what a proper Tafseer Quran course trains you to do, rather than stopping at a surface-level word-for-word reading.
If you’ve already completed our Quran Translation course, or already have a working knowledge of Quranic Arabic grammar, this is the natural next step for you. If you’re starting from scratch, we recommend beginning with our Learn Quranic Arabic course first — a grounding in the language makes the material far easier to follow.
What You’ll Learn in This Tafseer Quran Course
Our Tafseer Quran online course outline covers:
- Meaning of verses
- Basic Arabic grammar
- Shaan-e-Nuzool (occasion of revelation)
- Rabt bain-us-Suwar (connection between surahs)
- Understanding of Ahkam (rulings)
- Application of Ahkam in daily life
- Ethics and Tajweed
- Qiraat and its relation to Tafseer
- Ilm ul Balaghah (eloquence)
- Usul al-Tafsir (principles of Quranic exegesis)

This structure follows the same approach used by classical Mufassireen, or scholars of Tafsir: understanding a verse begins with the Quran itself, is supported by the explanations of the Prophet ﷺ, and is cross-checked against the reports of the Sahaba and Tabi’un before consulting the views of later scholars. Our teachers guide students through each layer of the curriculum at a pace suited to their existing knowledge of Arabic and Islamic sciences.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Tafseer the same as Tafsir?
Yes — “Tafseer” and “Tafsir” are two common English spellings of the same Arabic word (تفسير), meaning the explanation and interpretation of the Quran.
Do I need to know Arabic before starting a Tafseer Quran course?
Some familiarity with basic Arabic grammar helps, but it isn’t a strict requirement. Our teachers adjust the pace based on each student’s background, and classes are available in both Urdu and English.
How is this different from your Quran Translation course?
Translation teaches you the meaning of the words. Our Tafseer Quran course goes further, covering the Shan-e-Nuzool, the Ahkam a verse establishes, and how each verse connects to the surah as a whole.
Can I take this as a group class?
Yes, both one-on-one and group class options are available, in either Urdu or English.
